Today's chefs are people that command our respect. I find food competitions on food network channels boring. In most cases, such competitions are none other than ploys for networks who are desperate for ratings. Even in the most non-competitive environment, ideas competitions with defined end-points can force-feed the organizers with a deluge of ideas. These talented participants are then pitted one against the other. There may be many ideas that are valid and useful, but these get sidelined by the urgent need to choose ‘the best’, and to announce it with much celebration with a cash prize. I feel this is most likely the only way to get contestants.
