Fine Dining in Raleigh begins here, the best steaks, largest wine cellar & two giant wedding venue choices at one of the nation's most successful restaurants
The Angus Barn Restaurant Review
One of the oldest and most beloved restaurants in the area, the Angus Barn is still a special occasion destination. Walter Royal, winner of the "Iron Chef" title on the Food Network’s TV show, heads the kitchen, which offers standard steakhouse fare and French specialties. To sample Royal’s most imaginative efforts, plan an event in the intimate wine cellar tucked away from the cacophony of the massive dining rooms.
The Wild Turkey Lounge upstairs is a cozy spot to enjoy oysters Rockefeller, onion rings or barbecued ribs. Best bets on the regular menu are the rack of lamb, bacon-wrapped Carolina trout, or any cut of juicy Prime beef, aged in house. Save room for dessert --- you won’t regret ordering the famous chocolate chess pie or apple crisp. The Barn is known for its friendly service and extensive wine list; it includes a line-up of first growth Bordeaux and notable Burgundies. Wines from Idaho, New York, Canada and North Carolina are available, too, and ports and Madeiras are well represented.
The Angus Barn restaurant sets the standards for fine dining!
An Award-Winning Chef
In 1997 the Restaurant Guild International declared Walter the Five Star Chef of the Year, making him the first African American to earn that distinction. He's been one of James Beard's Rising Stars, one of the Top Five Chefs in the Southeast, the Top Black Chef in America, and the Best Chef in the Triangle.
